January 2010 Voter's Meeting Minutes

Quarterly Meeting

January 10, 2010

Chairman Charles Kruenegel called the meeting to order.  Pastor Bruce then spoke briefly on Jesus’ flight from Egypt and led those present in prayer.

The minutes were read and accepted as read.

There were no new members or releases.  Pastor Bruce passed out the Annual Pastoral Report.

Financial Reviewer Lee Schaal announced the church books had been audited and everything was in order.  A motion to accept the Auditors report received a second and carried.  The Annual Treasurer’s report was passed out and the Quarterly Treasurer’s Report was given.  A motion was made and passed to accept both reports as read.  The Treasurer also reported the change in Pastors Insurance Plan to Plan “B” had finally been completed.  The Treasurer has been requested to add a 2nd signature on our bank account so someone else could write checks in the case of an emergency.  After a brief discussion, no action was taken.

The Elders reported they had been meeting monthly and that things are going smoothly.

Board of Education had nothing to report.  The Trustees reported that nothing has been done with the drainage situation.  The Sunday School had nothing to report.

The Bible Class is studying the Book of Romans and encourages everyone to attend.  The Finance Men and Sexton had nothing to report at this time.

The voters gave a rising vote of thanks to all those who worked on the Sunday School Christmas Eve program and also to everyone who helped decorate the church for Christmas.

The Council recommended the following special collections:

Ash Wednesday      – Ft Wayne Seminary

2nd Lenten Service  – Lutheran World Relief

3rd Lenten Service   – St. Louis Seminary

4th Lenten Service  – Lighthouse Pregnancy Center

5th Lenten Service  – Lutheran School for the Deaf

6th  Lenten Service  – District Deaf Ministry

Maunday Thursday – Christ Our Rock Lutheran H.S.

Easter Sunrise          - Bethesda

A motion accept the Council’s recommendation received a second and carried.

The Secretary was directed to send a note of thanks to Tim McMillan for his donations or communion wine.

In new business, the Trustees reported on options to replace the heating system.  The three (3) options with their respective estimated costs at this time are: replace the existing boilers ($34,000);  install gas forced air with central air conditioning ($25-35,000);  install geo-thermal heating and cooling system ($83,000).  There was some discussion concerning the cost savings from geo-thermal.  The savings for a church would not be nearly as large as they would for a residential building which is used every day.  There was also more discussion regarding how the contractors would run ductwork for the back of the church and the balcony.  Contractors would be willing to come out and present their proposals to the congregation.  The Chairman requested a show of hands indicating support for each option.  Support for the gas forced air option was nearly unanimous so the Trustees will pursue that course of action and get more detailed bids.

Minutes were read and approved as read.

The meeting was adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

 F. Gale Meseke, Secretary
