THE PRELUDE

OPENING HYMN:  #887 “Now the Light Has Gone Away”

Pastor:  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

PEOPLE:  Amen.

RESPONSIVE READING (Romans 6:3-5)

Pastor:  Do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

PEOPLE:  We were, therefore, buried with Him through

            baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was

            raised from the dead through the glory of the Father,

            we too may have a new life.

Pastor:  If we have been united with Him in His death …

PEOPLE:  We will certainly be united with Him in His resurrection.

RESPONSIVE PRAYER:

Pastor:  O God of grace and mercy, we remember before you our brother Richard. We thank you for giving him to us to know and love and as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth.  Comfort us who mourn:

ALL:   Give us your aid, so that we see in death the gate

            of eternal life, that we may continue our course on

            earth in confidence until, by Your call, we are reunited

            with those who have gone before us; through Jesus

            Christ, Your Son, Our Lord.  Amen.

PSALM 23:  (Read in Unison)

            The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

            He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;

                 He leadeth me beside the still waters.

            He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of

                 rightousness for His name’s sake.

            Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow

                 of Death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me.

                 Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.

            Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;

            Thou annointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

            Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;

            And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON:  Isaiah 40:27-31

THE EPISTLE:  Romans 8:31-39

THE GOSPEL:  John 14:1-6

SERMON HYMN:  #770 “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”

THE SERMON:  Lifted Up in Love            Isaiah 40:27-31

THE PRAYERS

            Following each petition:

Pastor:  Lord, in Your Mercy,

                        PEOPLE:  Hear our Prayer.

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

            Our Father, who art in heaven,

                 Hallowed by Thy Name;

            Thy Kingdom come;

                 Thy will be done on earth

                 as it is in heaven.

            Give us this day our daily bread;

                 and forgive us our trespasses

                 as we forgive those who trespass

                 against us;

            And lead us not into temptation,

                 but deliver us from evil;

            For thine is the Kingdom and the power

                 and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

THE BENEDICTION:

Pastor:  The Lord bless you and keep you.  The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.  The Lord look upon you with favor and give you His peace.

PEOPLE: Amen.

CLOSING HYMN:  #744 “Amazing Grace”
