THE SERVICE OF INSTALLATION FOR

REV. BRUCE MILASH

AS PASTOR OF

IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH (AUGSBURG)

SHOBONIER, ILLINOIS

JULY 19, 2009, 5:00 P.M.

PROCESSIONAL HYMN - #549, VV.1,5,6,7  “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name”

CALL TO WORSHIP:  P = Pastor; C = Congregation

P:         Christ is the Vine,

C:        We are His branches;

P:         Christ is the Shepherd,

C:        We are His flock;

P:         Christ is the Cornerstone,

C:        We are His living stones, built upon Him;

P:         Christ is the Head,

C:        We are the members of His body.

P:         In the name of Christ, the Lord of the Church, we begin this service of installation.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS:

P:         As we reflect upon our responsibilities as members of the Body of Christ, we can’t help but recognize the many times we have failed to be all that God desires us to be.  Therefore, let us lay our sins before His throne of grace and seek His forgiveness.

C:        Lord of the Church, we have not always remembered that our pastors are Your servants; rather we have at times looked on them solely as our servants…to this we do confess.

We have allowed strife and party spirit within Your Church to divide us at times and have forgotten Your purposes for us…to this we do confess.

We have not always been mindful of Your will for us as members of the Body of Christ and we have often failed to follow that will…to this we do confess.

For these and all other sins that we are guilty of we take shelter in Your amazing grace and say:  God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

P:         Our Father in heaven knows of our sins even before we confess them.  But this is His grace, that though we were sinners, Christ died for us and was raised again so that we might enjoy God’s full and complete forgiveness.  Be at peace with the Lord then!  Your sins are forgiven and remembered no more.  Amen.

HYMN OF RESPONSE:  #744, v.1

Amazing grace!  How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost but now am found,

Was blind but now I see!

SCRIPTURE READINGS:  Isaiah 6:1-8

2 Timothy 4:1-5

John 21:15-17

CONFESSION OF FAITH:   Apostles’ Creed

            I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended into hell.  The third day He rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.  From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.
