Maundy Thursday                                                                              April 8, 2004

Maundy Thursday receives its title from the Latin word mandatum, which means “command.”  This comes from our Lord’s command at His Last Supper to “Love one another.”  Jesus demonstrates His love for us through the washing of feet and the institution of Holy Communion.

The Sacrament of Communion is celebrated tonight.  Scripture teaches that Christ gives us His physical body and blood in communion to strengthen faith and forgive sins.  Communion is also a public statement that we are united in doctrine and belief.  God warns us in Scripture that we must be instructed and believe in His words before we commune.  (1 Cor. 11: 17-32).  Partaking of communion without believing in the body of Christ can lead to great harm.  Therefore, out of love and concern, we ask that only those who have been instructed and who hold membership at a church in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod partake of communion.  If you have not communed here before, please talk to Pastor before the service.
